COLOMBIA IS SIMILAR ENGLAND?....MAYBE

Colombia and England are countries of the world and it has similar things that the people use in common day.


SYMBOLS

FLAG

COLOMBIA



The flag symbolizes our nation, its history and the nationality of its people.








ENGLAND





The Flag of England, also known as the Cross of St. George consists of a vertical cross, dark red that symbolizes St. George on a white cloth

Color of these flags identifies characteristics of each country. Colombian flag shows festival its people, the climate of the country, the effort to move forward. England flag shows elegance of serious the brits, the cold weather and the discipline to identify with the power that we have had a long history.


BUSES



Colombia has red buses called “TRANSMILENIO”. These buses are red, large, and use special way in Bogota. People use this transports because is fast but this service is massive, so there are many persons and sometimes is it uncomfortable.



London has double-decker red buses, and people use this service occasionally. These buses are British tradition because for long time its buses was the only with double-decker.


The use of buses in Colombia is to move en masse across the city. “Transmilenio” is used together with other bus which indicates a large number of vehicles in these cities. In England not used in massive double-decker buses, usually people use Metro.


TAXIS








Colombian taxis are yellow, modern, of various sizes and brands. This is a expensive service. Currently, there are many taxis in Colombian cities.











Britain`s old taxis are black, small and expensive service. Brit people use sometimes this service




In both countries, people use the taxi service occasionally, as an expensive service.



TRADITIONAL FOOD AND DRINK

Colombian food is very delicious and there is variety. The most representative Colombian meals are:

- Ajiaco: This meal is a soup with vegetables, potatoes, chicken and flavored with an herb called “Guascas”. It is served with rice and avocado. The area where people can eat this food is Bogota and enjoy it with a dessert called “Brevas con Arequipe”. Our original Ajiaco is Chibcha Indians of the Andean region (Cundinamarca, Boyacá). In this area the Aborigines ate porridge of maize and potato seasoned with pepper and guascas. When the Spanish arrived was added, the chicken, cream and capers, resulting in the Ajiaco Santafereño



- Bandeja Paisa: this food is a mixture of many foods and containing meat, sausage, greaves, eggs, beans, banana, rice, avocado and arepa. In its current form, is a newly developed plate, no references appear in cookbooks before 1950, and other documentation prior to that date.




Traditional Englad Food is Fish and chips. It became popular in the 1860's when railways began to bring fresh fish straight from the east coast to the our cities over night. The fish (cod, haddock, huss, plaice) is deep fried in flour batter and is eaten with chips.


The difference between the English and Colombian food is the abundance. Colombian food is prepared with various ingredients and served in large portions. In England the food is simple, with few ingredients and served in small portions.


TRADITIONAL DRINK

Colombian coffee is the national drink and it is famous in the world. Anywhere in the country is offered a cup of coffee and take at any time of day.




TEA

Tea in Britain is traditionally brewed in a warmed china teapot, adding one spoonful of tea per person and one for the pot. Most Britons like their tea strong and dark, but with a lot of milk.

The people of both countries took their traditional drinks during the day, the difference is that England have a timetable for doing so.


SPORTS

TEJO
“TEJO” is the national sport in Colombia. The game is to throw a pitch from the yew tree to the other, to bury it inside the horn, blow a fuse or failing to bury the speaker close to other competitors.





CRICKET

England´s National Game: Cricket.
Cricket is a bat and ball sport in which two opposing teams of eleven players each. It is played on a grass field, roughly oval (elliptical), whose length should not be less than that of a football. In the center of the field is a rectangular area which is called the pitch.




The difference between the national sports of Colombia and England is great. The two sports have different rules; the only rule is like playing in teams.

In the aspect of sport is a great difference between the British and the Colombians. The sport is actually identified between the two countries is football, as practiced from childhood.


Between Colombia and England there are differences in cultural aspects, but it is important to stress that both countries are in the world where we live and we must take care to share the joy of Colombia with the elegance of the English.
